There are More and Sometimes
Better Search Engines than Google
Search is probably the #1 benefit of using the Internet
to find information. People with any Internet experience beyond using
email are familiar with the ability to search. Anyone with Internet access
can go online and find the answer to a question. That question can be
literally anything. You can find a person's phone number, email address,
home/office address. You can find out about any subject, current events
to ancient history. But as common as search is, not everyone knows about
all the different ways to search. Let's explore some of the options.
Best General Search Engines
Google
Google is one of the best general search engines. Put in any word or phrase
and search. If you put in a phrase the results will be based on each word
you use. If you want only the exact phrase put it in quotation marks.
At the bottom of your results you will find a 'seach within result' option.
Put another word or phrase to narrow down the search to more specific
finds.
Local Google
Not many know about this option because it has not been officially
released. If you are searching for a place or want to narrow your search
for a purchase to local merchants try this method. Just put in the search
word or phrase and the zip code. Local Google will return results that
are local
Yahoo
Yahoo is arguably the first search engine. Orginally you searched
by broad subject. That is still an option but now the word/phrase search
engine rivals Google.
Ask Jeeves
This search engine 'invented' the ask a question approach. You can still
use it that way, just ask it any question you want answered. It is also
quickly becoming a strong general search engine as well.

Price Comparison
There are many options for doing product price comparisons. First find
the product you are interested in on any website. Then take the model
number/name to any of the sites below. The search will return a variety
of places to purchase the item as well as the current price. Some even
calculate the shipping charges as part of the comparison.
Froogle
Part of the Google family of searchers.
Bizrate.com
PriceWatch.com
e-mail Address Directories
Addresses.com
This site will help you find an email address.
It also allows reverse searches for telephone numbers, email addresses
and street addresses. It has many more useful search tools.
Infospace
Email Look - up
Email Address Consolidator
Here you can do a multiple engine search. Put in a name and search infospace,
switchboard, Yahoo, Lycos and others all at the same time.
Both of these sites help you verify an address. When you have an address
but it 'doesn't work' try one of these pages to see it it is still a valid
address. The address may have been cancelled or the server may just be
down for a short time. Find out which before you give up.
